WESTERN SELECT LACROSSE

Western Select Lacrosse was started in 2021 to provide a local tournament team option for talented girls lacrosse players from the mountain west region.

Western Select provides girls who love lacrosse a chance to improve and grow in this sport through competitive and enriching lacrosse experiences.  The program attracts players not only from the mountain west states, but from across the nation. Unlike many elite lacrosse clubs, Western Select supports and encourages its players to participate in multiple sports and activities in addition to lacrosse while also maintaining success in the classroom. The benefits of participation in multiple sports and activities is confirmed by many collegiate coaches, athletic trainers, and health care professionals. Western Select also prides itself on keeping costs to the bare minimum and offering need-based scholarships so that all players are financially able to participate. Western is committed to promoting its players and assisting any interested players with the college selection and recruiting process.

The 2021-2022 inaugural team was comprised of 19 middle school players from Wyoming and Idaho.  All players were multi-sport athletes and high achievers in school.  The inaugural team maintained an average GPA of 3.8 with over 88% of its players achieving a 4.0 GPA or higher. In the summer of 2022, the team, consisting of 2026, 2027 & 2028 players, competed in the 14U division of the USA Lacrosse youth festival held in conjunction with the Women’s Lacrosse World Championship Games in Towson, Maryland.  In its national & international debut, the team finished 7th out of sixteen 2026 teams from around the US, Italy, and Canada, including many decisive wins and a hard-fought 8-4 loss against the division champion and veteran New Jersey lacrosse club, CLC.  This inaugural team proved that players from the mountain west regions can compete among the best.

Western continues to grow as the sport of lacrosse grows in the mountain west and surrounding regions. The 2023 Summer Tournament Team includes players from six different states and its coaching staff includes experienced coaches from four different states. All players selected for the club are multi-sport, high-achieving student-athletes. The 2023 Summer Squad’s average GPA was 3.9 and many players consistently maintain a 4.0 GPA while taking honors classes and/or classes above their grade level. Western’s teams consist of World-Ranked Athletes, Junior Olympians, All-Stars, Grand Champions, Student Leaders, Team Captains, Bi-Lingual Students, All-Tournament Team selections, “Players to Watch,” Sponsored Athletes, Extreme Athletes, and, most importantly, all-around nice kids with amazing families. Based on the club’s continued success against nationally-ranked teams, Western’s 2023 14U Summer Tournament Team was one of only twenty total 2027 teams from across the country invited to compete in the 14U division of the USA Lacrosse Youth Nationals Tournament held in Delaware on July 11-12, 2023.

Inaugural 2021-2022 Western Select 14U Travel Team

Western Select embarked on its second full year of competing at the national level in the fall of 2023. Western fielded two national teams in the fall of 2023, a 2027/2028 Team and a 2029/2030 Team. The 2027/2028 Team is currently ranked in the top five of the teams who competed in the 2027 AA Division (the highest and most competitive national division in each age group) by Adrenaline Lacrosse. In January of 2024, the 2028 team finished 2nd in their division after tying the division champions at the 2024 Sand Storm Tournament, the largest lacrosse tournament for boys and girls in the world. Western has also had a number of its players recognized by US Club Lacrosse, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association (IWLCA), and/or Adrenaline Lacrosse as Players to Watch, All-Tournament Team Members, and Outstanding Players of the Game. In the 2024 Summer Season, Western had three travel teams - HS Team (2025-2027); 2028 Team; and 2029-2031 Team. All three teams finished with a winning record of 10-4. The HS Team outscored its opponents 148 goals to 62 goals. The 2028 Team outscored its opponents 157 goals to 50 goals.

Talented lacrosse players expected to graduate high school in 2025-2031 are eligible to try out for Western’s Tournament Teams. Additionally, in response to demand and Western’s commitment to helping grow the sport of lacrosse in the Mountain West, Western offers a chance for talented players who cannot commit to the travel schedule to train at the national level and participate in this program as a Training Squad Member. Training Squad Members may participate in all practices, clinics, training sessions, team camps, and special events alongside the National Tournament Team players and Western’s coaching staff throughout the season. Players graduating from high school in 2025-2031 are eligible for the Training Squad.
